Ahsan Iqbal says our house needs to be set in order

Ahsan Iqbal says our house needs to be set in order: The senior leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Interior Minister of Pakistan Ahsan Iqbal on Tuesday said that the nation faces ‘abnormal circumstances’ which requires for the ‘house to be set in order.’

On September the fifth Khwaja Asif in a remark had said that Pakistan needs to put the house in order, the comment had later been endorsed by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, however the comment had been severely criticized by the former Interior Minister Nisar Ali Khan. Mr Khan said that officials belonging to the government should refrain from issuing statements which reinforce the narrative of the enemy and ebarrass Pakistan in the eyes of the international community.

“Nations that are alive regularly conduct exercises of self-accountability, and [our self-analysis] only points out how every religious event has become a security nightmare instead of a symbol of peace,” Iqbal said.

“Don’t we then need to set our house in order?”

Speaking on a program the interior minister had criticized the country’s political situation.

Iqbal during the program said that our seventy year old history has repeated time and time again. He further added that the dismissal of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif had similarity with that of (late) Mohammad Khan Junejo who had been dismissed by former president and martial law administrator Zia Ul Haq on the charges of incompetency and economic stagflation.

In a response to a question about his earlier statement, where Iqbal had asked “when will Pakistan become a normal nation” he said“We are a nation faced with abnormal circumstances.”

The minister insisted that the effects of political instability were far-reaching and harmful for the country.

“A Chinese investor, who was all set to invest in Pakistan, is now reassessing the decision after the Supreme Court disqualified Nawaz Sharif” he said, adding that foreign investors have become wary of making investments in the country, which are directly linked with the country’s economic growth, because of an unstable democratic framework.
