Increasing Dengue Patients Requires Preventive Measures: The district health authorities here on Friday pointed out that the increase of a number of the dengue patients in the city hospitals was following the lack of proper surveillance and preventive measures by the authorities concerned in the federal capital.
Chairing a meeting to review anti-dengue arrangements, Additional Deputy Commissioner Maleha Jamal said that storage of water, open drains in the city while no dengue surveillance and non-reporting of dengue patients in the federal capital has increased number of the dengue patients in Rawalpindi.
She asked the authorities to take necessary action for eliminating of dengue larvae as a number of dengue patients reached to 145 which was an alarming situation. The ADC also directed to expedite surveillance activities or tracing larva and its eradication besides focusing on hotspots where larva has been detected during current checking in the city.
She said that most cases were being reported from cantonment areas and the departments had some hurdles to reach at sensitive places while steps were being taken to resolve it. Maleha directed the officials to make maximum arrangements for the treatment of dengue fever patients; besides all possible preventive measures to meet any eventuality.
She directed to create awareness among the residents of the use of mosquito net or mosquito repellents like mats and coils. On the occasion, health official briefed the meeting that 1663 dengue fever suspects had so far been brought to the allied hospitals of the city, out of which 145 having dengue positive results who were being provided the required treatment.
He said that during indoor surveillance in Rawal Town, Potohar Town, Chaklala Cantonment and the Rawalpindi Cantonment areas, 435,660 houses were checked from October 8 to 11 where larvae was found at 1035 houses While 22,691 spots were checked during outdoor surveillance by 225 teams in the said areas and larvae was found at 97 points, he added.
