Addressing the South Asia Rising 2017 conference in Dubai the other day, Musharraf said that Pakistan could play a crucial role in eradicating terrorism. He added that it was wrong to accuse\u00a0Pakistan of supporting terrorism.<\/p>\n
“Pakistan was\u00a0asked by the US and Western world to introduce \u2018Jihad\u2019 and impart training to \u2018Mujahideen\u2019 in 80s and to the \u2018Taliban\u2019 during 90s. Why is only Pakistan being blamed now for militancy problems,” he said.
\nThe former president said that the US coalition forces in Afghanistan had defeated Al Qaeda and Taliban, but unfortunately the military victory could not be transformed into political victory in Afghanistan resulting in a resurgence of militancy in the region.
\nMusharraf criticized Indian interference in Pakistan and warned that South Asia would not rise economically if the region, especially Pakistan and India, did not move forward to resolve their outstanding\u00a0issues. Referring to India’s refusal to participate in the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) summit that was scheduled to be held in Pakistan in November 2016, Pervez Musharraf said that politicisation of SAARC\u00a0was regrettable.<\/p>\n
