Tmall Genie

Tmall Gene is the voice activated assistant which was developed by Alibaba AI Labs, the company’s artificial intelligence arm.  This VAA will allow the connectivity from your home to your car.

As per details from Alibaba Tmall Genie could also perform functions like planning a route or controlling music. The voice assistant will also allow car owners to perform diagnostics on the car’s engine, battery, and other components and check the car’s location and fuel levels in the future.

This week’s Tmall Genie auto launch is one of the first moves from Alibaba’s AI Lab institution, which was announced as part of a $15 billion investment into artificial intelligence, machine learning, IOT, quantum computing and other emerging technologies last year.

“Users will be able to turn on air conditioning, lock car doors, and open the trunk from their home,” said Chen Lijuan, head of Alibaba AI Labs. Chen said Tmall Genie uses voiceprint recognition technology to identify authorized car users.

Beyond diagnostics, it will also cover door windows, air conditioning and other settings. The AI also connects to third-party hardware.

Alibaba unveiled a smart speaker in the style of Amazon’s Echo products and Google Home last year and at that time Tmall Genie was launched. The Chinese firm said it has sold more than 2 million of its smart devices so far, and it is working on linking them with the car-based AI to allow users to check their vehicle from their home.
