Trump Terminates Singapore Summit: US President Donald Trump says he has canceled his planned June 12th summit in Singapore with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, blaming recent statements by Pyongyang and “anger” and “hostility” from the North Korean regime for the collapse of the historic event.

Trump´s letter came a day after North Korea attacked US Vice President Mike Pence as “ignorant and stupid.”

The president also warned that the military forces of the United States are “more ready than we have ever been before,” along with allies South Korea and Japan, should North Korea take any “foolish or reckless acts.”

Trump and Kim had been due to hold high-stakes talks on June 12 aimed at ridding the reclusive state of nuclear weapons, but the meeting was recently thrown into doubt as both sides raised the prospect of scrapping the discussions and traded threats.

On Thursday morning, the White House released a letter Trump wrote to Kim saying: “I was very much looking forward to being there with you. Sadly, based on the tremendous anger and open hostility displayed in your most recent statement, I feel it is inappropriate at this time to have this long-planned meeting.”

“I felt a wonderful dialogue was building up between you and me, and ultimately, it is only that dialogue that matters,” Trump said. “If you change your mind having to do with this most important summit, please do not hesitate to call me or write.

“The world and North Korea in particular, has lost a great opportunity for lasting peace and great prosperity and wealth. This missed opportunity is a truly sad moment in history.”

According to a senior White House official, “the president dictated every word of the letter himself.”

The North’s official news agency put out a statement by Vice Foreign Minister Kim Kye Gwan saying, “We had set in high regards President Trump’s efforts, unprecedented by any other president, to create a historic U.S.-North Korea summit. We tell the United States once more that we are open to resolving problems at any time in any way.”

But the statement said Trump’s decision was not in line with the world’s wishes and that Kim made the utmost effort to hold the summit.

The decision came as North Korea said it had “completely” dismantled its nuclear test site, in a carefully choreographed move portrayed by the isolated regime as a goodwill gesture ahead of the Singapore summit.
