World’s First Holographic Smartphone: Red Hydrogen One: RED, is a brand identified for its high-end camera. The company is now entering into the smartphone market.

US telecommunication giants AT&T and Verizon announced this week that they will start selling a holographic smartphone later this year.

The smartphone, which is called Red Hydrogen One smartphone, is the first phone from video equipment company Red.

Red Hydrogen One Features

There are speculations that the phone will have 5.7-inch screen with a pixel resolution of 2,560 x 1,440. It also runs Android, there’s a dual-sensor camera on the front and the back, and it’s powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 (yes, the flagship chip for 2017), as well as a 4,500mAh battery.

It’s built for immersion, as the Hydrogen One’s display is aimed at delivering a 3D experience without the need for 3D glasses; and the phone can process audio to be much more spatial.

With a 4-view camera which enables users to see 3D images without glasses, it has become the world’s first holographic smartphone.

The highlight of the phone is the nanotechnology between the LCD and the back-light to create a 3-dimensional (3D) effect. However, the clip is that the content has to be supported by the display-which is sort of holographic-to work well with audience expectation.

RED is launching a content platform witch downloadable material. The company has the tech to convert 2D content to 3D content. If the content is not 3D then the screen can be used to view normal 2D material.

The audio bit of the phone aims to get close to reality as possible with headphones on. There is a lot of 3D audio processing which enables spatial sound. This has been executed before in Dolby Atmos-supported devices.

Price

During pre-orders on the official website of the Red company, the price of the smartphone ranges from 1,195 U.S. dollars for an aluminum model to 1,595 dollars for a titanium-based version.

Launch

The device was originally expected to launch in the first quarter of 2018, but that date has been pushed back.

“This revolutionary smartphone will provide you with significant advancements in the way you create and view content on the leading network for entertainment,” Kevin Petersen, senior vice president of device and network services marketing of AT&T, said in a statement.

“When the Red Hydrogen One launches you will be able to look around, below and into your screen’s image with a 4-view holographic display, which is even better than 3D”, said Petersen.
