After Trump and Brexit, Europe can no longer rely on allies: Merkel: According to Mrs Merkel along with Russia she wanted friendly relations with both countries but Europe now had to “fight for its own destiny“.

The German Chancellors comments come after President Trump refused to recommit to the 2015 Paris climate deal at the G7 summit.

The Chancellor is on the campaign trail ahead of elections in September.

Chancellor Merkel while talking to a crowd at an election rally in Munich, southern Germany said “The times in which we could completely depend on others are on the way out. I’ve experienced that in the last few days

Highlighting the importance of better French and German relationships specially after the election of Emmanuel Macron, Mrs Merkel said: “We Europeans have to take our destiny into our own hands.

Earlier on Saturday 27th, May, 2017 the German leader had described climate change talks at the G7 group of rich nations as “very unsatisfactory.

While the leaders from the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Italy and Japan had all re-affirmed of their support for the Paris accord, however President Trump said that he would make a decision in the coming week.

Earlier President Trump had expressed doubts about climate change and had pledged to abandon the Paris deal.

President Trump while speaking in Brussels last week had told the Nato members to spend more money on defence and did not re-state his administration’s commitment to Nato’s mutual security guarantees.

According to Polls Mrs Merkel is on the course to be re elected as the German chancellor for the fourth term at elections in September.

The message given by the German Chancellor was clear; while speaking passionately and straightforwardly the German Chancellor said that they were to keep friendly relations “Trump’s America” and “Brexit Britain.

Her appeals for the Europeans to seek their own destinations were met with cheers from the crowd.
