At least 36 bodies found at casino complex: According to officials most of the dead had suffocated in thick toxic smoke after the man set fire to casino tables.
Nationality of the gunmen is not known yet, On the early hours of Friday morning the gunmen had began shooting in the casino in Resorts World Manila. According to the Police the shooter later killed himself by setting himself on fire.
The incident had resulted in a security lockdown and the authorities initially said that there were no casualties, it appears that the bodies were later found when the authorities were sweeping the complex, after finding the body of the shooter.
Despite the claim of Islamic State (IS) officials have maintained that the incident was a robbery attempt, and not a terror related incident. The shooter had entered the building at midnight and began shooting at the Casino with an assault rifle. Police and eyewitnesses say that the man had not been targeting patrons but shooting at ceiling and television screens. The man had set gambling tables on fire and filled up a backpack with gambling chips that were worth 113m Philippine pesos ($2.3m)
Later on the person had moved to the hotel section of the complex, he had left behind the backpack and entered a hotel room. According to national police chief Ronal Dela Rosa “He lay down on the bed, covered himself with a thick blanket, apparently poured petrol on the blanket and burned himself.”
The incident had sparked a security lockdown and manhunt in the complex which ended when his body had been found.
According to a statement given by Resorts World Manila the man also shot himself after setting himself on fire, and that he was found dead around 07:00 local time (23:00 Thursday GMT).
According to the Police officials the man was a foreigner, although his nationality has not been confirmed. The earlier statement had said that the man was tall and appeared to resemble a Caucasian.
The Police has released the CCTV images of the man to local media, which showed him dressed in black and carrying his rifle.
The Authorities have old reporters that the man appeared to be “mentally disturbed” Resorts World Manila has called the casino shooting a “cowardly act of a deranged mind.”
According to the Police and the fire authority officials, many people appeared to have suffocated from thick smoke caused by the fire.
According to the people who managed to escape the casino, Thick smoke had filled up the casino.
