Bollywood’s most controversial movie Padmaavat is set to release in cinemas this week.

It is based on the story of Queen Padmavati and her husband, a noble king. Their union is called into question, however, when an ambitious Sultan hears of Padmavati’s beauty and becomes obsessed with her.

Padmaavat was meant to hit UK cinemas on 1 December but the protests forced Paramount Pictures to reconsider its release.

There have been many protests across India about the film and the main star, Deepika Padukone has even received death threats over her role as Padmavati in it.

The rumours are that the movie actually portrays Hindu queen Padmini getting intimate with a Muslim king.
