Fresh Currency Notes Will Be Available From 1st June

Fresh Currency Notes Will Be Available From 1st June: An announcement has been made by the State Bank of Pakistan that it would issue fresh currency notes to the general public from the 1st of June for the Eid-Ul-Fitr celebrations.

SMS short code—8877 for issuing the fresh currency notes

The State Bank in collaboration with the Pakistan Banks Association (PBA) has built up an SMS short code—8877 for issuing the fresh currency notes, which would be issued from the 1st of June until the 14th of June.

As per a notification released on Tuesday, any person willing to get the new currency notes would have to send a message to 8877 along with his CNIC number and a branch code of a chosen bank. The system would respond by sending the transaction number and the branch address.

The charges of sending an SMS to 8877 are rupees fifteen plus tax.

Under the SMS service, each CNIC number and the cell phone number could only be used once. No transaction code would be sent to the senders if they send the same CNIC or smart card number from various mobile numbers or addresses.

Help Desk For Fresh Currency

A help desk has also been set up at (021)-111-008-877 for entertaining queries or complaints of the public.

The subscriber would be required to present his original CNIC at the time of receiving the cash in fresh currency notes. Each subscriber could exchange and receive three packets of rupees ten, rupees fifty and rupees hundred each.

This facility would be available at one thousand five hundred and thirty-five commercial bank branches and the State Bank of Pakistan offices present in one hundred and thirty-two cities.

The subscriber would have to present his original CNIC at the time of receiving fresh currency notes. Each subscriber can exchange and get three packets of Rs10, and each package of Rs.50 and Rs.100. This facility will be available at 1,535 commercial bank branches and SBP offices located in 132 cities.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Manager State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Multan Aftab Ahmad said that currency authentication machines were operational in 30 cities currently, and the facility would be available all over the country from next fiscal year.

SBP has advised the people to be careful while accepting cash. There are some security features of genuine currency notes which people can memorize by virtue of attention and practice and that are how people can keep themselves safe against fraudsters.
