Kyun Nikala To Be Shown In Karachi Theater On August 13: Marking Dawar Mehmood and Anwar Maqsood’s reunion, upcoming theatre production #Kyun Nikala is all set to hit the Karachi Arts Council on Independence Day eve (media night). The political satire follows the story of Bengali cook who wishes to take part in the elections, according to Dawar, the director.
A press conference was held at the Karachi Arts Council on Thursday to formally announce the play, with Dawar Mehmood, Anwar Maqsood and president Arts Council Ahmad Shah in attendance aside from media representatives.
Reflecting on the title of the play “Kyun Nikala”, a phrase that has become politically significant among the people, Anwar Maqsood shared that he had named the play when the phrase wasn’t familiar to anyone.
“It has nothing to do with the upcoming elections as it was written sometime back and I am not willing to change anything in the play,” Anwar sahab asserted.
Added Dawar: “Anwar sahab has written the most beautiful dialogues and the most amazing script for Kyun Nikala. None of our past plays will be able to match the beauty with which he has written this time. Since we are coming together after over three years, we both are quite nervous and sensitive about this one.”
The rehearsal for the play has begun already while the lineup features all new actors this time. It will premiere at the Karachi Arts Council on August 14 and will run till September 15, before it heads to other cities. The Lahore run will take place from October 1 till October 15 while it will be performed in Islamabad from October 25 till November 15.
