Riyadh To Open First Ever 4DX Theaters

Riyadh To Open First Ever 4DX Theaters: South Korean based and Seoul headquartered CJ 4DPLEX signed a deal with Cinema city to open up 4DX theatres in three locations around the Saudi Arab, by the end of the year 2018.

After opening of Cinemas in 35 years, Saudi Arabia is now aiming to open 4DX cinemas as it looks to tap into demand for entertainment within the Kingdom.

As per reports by an American media outlet, the Saudi capital of Riyadh will be the first to become a CJ 4DPLEX multiplex in its Al-Qasr Mall, which will be launching 19 screens.

According to Xclusive Cinemas SAL Holding, the parent company of Cinemacity, they will be administering a total of 116 screens by the end of this year in five countries that include Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, The United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.

The report describes the 4DX promising the audience an interactive experience that includes the movement of seats synchronized with the action underway on screen, along with coordinated special effects including rain, wind, fog and numerous other olfactory effects.

CEO of CJ 4DPLEX, Byung Hwan Choi has released a statement regarding the subject saying: “With this upcoming debut in Saudi Arabia and further expansion in this region with Cinemacity, we will reach to the Saudi’s untapped market and lead cinema revolution in progressing immersive cinema into the future.”

4DX is like 3D on steroids. It’s an interactive experience, one in which audiences’ seats move along with the on-screen action — auditoriums have a variety of synchronized special effects, such as rain, wind, fog, and various scents, according to the report.

As per earlier reports, CJ 4DPLEX had announced that through its partnership with Cineworld, the parent company of Regal, the company will be adding a total of 145 4DX on a global scale.

AMC Theatres, the largest theater chain in the U.S. was the first to cash in on Saudi Arab recently opened entertainment sector. It bagged the first cinema operating license early this month by Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Culture and Information. As part of the move the American-cinema operator plans to open 30 to 40 cinemas in 15 cities in the Kingdom in the next five years and around 50 to 100 cinemas in about 25 cities by 2030.

Organized by the Arab Fashion Council, Saudi Arabia also hosted its first ever Arab Fashion Week last month that was headlined by Jean Paul Gaultier and Roberto Cavalli. The council is headed by Princess Noura Bint Faisal Al Saud, the great-granddaughter of Saudi Arabia’s founder.
