Six men have been found guilty in Mumbai blasts 1993
Six men have been found guilty by a court in India’s western Mumbai city for their roles in the 1993 serial bomb blasts.
The convicted include Abu Salem who had fled India after the bombings but was extradited from Portugal in 2005. The explosion was responsible for the death of 257 people, the explosion was allegedly to avenge the killing of Muslims in riots a few months earlier. The blasts targeted a dozen sites, including the Bombay Stock Exchange, the offices of national carrier Air India and a luxury hotel.
Friday’s convictions were the second leg of a trial that took almost a quarter of a century to complete.
Between 2003 and 2010 seven men had been arrested, the arrested men were tried separately as they were arrested towards the end of the previous trial.
A court had found six of them guilty of criminal conspiracy and murder. While one man had been acquitted.
In 2015, Abu Salem, a key associate of Indian crime lord Dawood Ibrahim, was jailed for life in prison for a 20 year old murder, which was not connected to the blasts.
Yakub Memon, the man convicted of plotting and financing the bombings, was executed in 2015.

Pakistan-based militants blamed for the attacks and peace efforts between the two countries derailed. Nine of the attackers also killed. Pakistani national Mohammad Ajmal Amir Qasab, who was captured alive, hanged in November 2012
