Trump says he will speak under oath on Comey

Trump says he will speak under oath on Comey: “100%” willing to speak under oath about conversations with ex-FBI chief James Comey says President Trump.

President Trump while Speaking at the White House, has denied having asked for Mr Comey’s loyalty or for an inquiry into a former White House aide to be dropped.

The President has said “James Comey confirmed a lot of what I said, and some of the things he said just weren’t true.”

Conversely, a congressional panel has asked for any tapes of their conversations.

Mr Comey has said that Trump had fired him because of his Russia inquiry. Former FBI chief Comey had been investigating an alleged Kremlin plot to sway last year’s US election in favour of President Trump, furthermore the investigation involved whether there was any collusion with the president or his campaign staff.

On Thursday, 08th June 2017, Mr Comey had testified to one of the several congressional committees that is also looking into the Russia claims.

Mr Comey during the hearing alleged that the president had pressurised him to drop a probe into former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn. The former National Security Adviser had been fired by President Trump for misleading the White House over contacts with Moscow’s ambassador.

The former FBI director under oath, told the Senate Intelligence Committee that the president had asked him during a one-to-one dinner at the White House to pledge loyalty.

Approximate 20 million US televisions had tuned in to see the explosive testimony.

President Trump at a press conference on Friday, 9th June 2017, afternoon in the Rose Garden with the visiting president of Romania, President Trump had rejected Mr Comey’s claims.

The President had said that the former FBI director’s testimony has shown that there was “no collusion, no obstruction.” Mr Comey on the other hand told the senators that he had assured the President that he was not under investigation.

A journalist has asked the US president if he would be willing to give his version of events under oath. To which the President had replied “One hundred per cent.

The President further added that “I hardly know the man [Mr Comey], I’m not going to say, ‘I want you to pledge allegiance.’ Who would do that? Who would ask a man to pledge allegiance under oath? I mean, think of it. I hardly know the man. It doesn’t make sense.

When the President was asked about whether he had the recordings of his conversations with Mr Comey, which he has previously hinted, the president said he would address it at a later date.

On Friday, 09th June 2017, the President said “I’ll tell you something about that maybe sometime in the very near future,” I’ll tell you about it over a short period of time. I’m not hinting at anything.

Shortly after the press conference, leaders of the House Intelligence Committee said they had asked the White House whether there were any such tapes. The House panel requested that if the recordings exist they be submitted by 23 June. The Senate Judiciary Committee asked the White House last month about such audio.
