Trump talks of Solar panels for Mexico wall

Supporters of the US President Donald Trump were told that his proposed wall along the border with Mexico can have solar panels.

While addressing to a rally in Iowa, the President said that the panels would provide cheap energy and help to pay for the controversial wall. The President in his address suggested that the plan was his own saying: “Pretty good imagination, right? Good? My idea.” However, companies who have submitted the designs for the wall have included solar panels.

In an attempt to curb illegal immigration and drug trafficking, during his campaign, Mr Trump had pledged to build a wall along the Mexican border. The President had insisted that he would make Mexico foot the bill. Subsequently President Enrique Peña Nieto had dismissed the idea altogether.

On Wednesday, 21st June 2017, at a campaign-style rally in Cedar Rapids, the President told cheering supporters that he would “give you an idea that nobody has heard about yet… We’re thinking of something that’s unique, we’re talking about the southern border, lots of sun, lots of heat. We’re thinking about building the wall as a solar wall, so it creates energy and pays for itself. And this way, Mexico will have to pay much less money, and that’s good, right?

Furthermore he added “Solar wall, panels, beautiful. I mean actually think of it, the higher it goes the more valuable it is. Pretty good imagination right? Good? My idea.

After an invitation from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) more than 200 companies have reportedly submitted designs for the wall. Among the submitted designs one design from Gleason Partners in Las Vegas had proposed a wall of steel, cement and solar panels.

In March writing in a magazine two academics had also suggested the idea of a solar panelled wall.
