UK elections:A crushing blow dealt to PM May

UK elections:A crushing blow dealt to PM May: The election on the other hand had wiped out her parliamentary majority and thrown the country into a political turmoil.

On Thursday, 08th June 2017, election no clear winner emerged, however a wounded May had signalled that she would still fight on. On the other hand her rival Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, had once been written off by his opponents as a no-hoper, said she should step down.

After what’s being called as one of the most sensational nights in British electoral history, politicians and commentators had called her decision to hold the election a colossal mistake and derided her performance on the campaign trail.

However it has been reported that the Prime Minister had no plans to resign.

643 out of the 650 seats have been declared, the Conservatives have won 315 seats. Though the Conservatives are the biggest single winner, they  have failed to reach the 326-mark they would need to command a parliamentary majority. Labour on the other hand had won 261 seats.

With talks of such complexity as the Brexit which are due to start in just 10 days’ time, it is unclear that who would form the next government and what the fundamental direction of Brexit would be.

At this time, more than anything else this country needs a period of stability,” said a saddened looking  Threasa May, after winning her own parliamentary seat of Maidenhead, near London.

If … the Conservative Party has won the most seats and probably the most votes then it will be incumbent on us to ensure that we have that period of stability and that is exactly what we will do.

On the other hand after winning his own seat in north London, Jeremy Corbyn said that May’s attempt to win a bigger mandate had backfired.

Jeremy Corbin added that”The mandate she’s got is lost Conservative seats, lost votes, lost support and lost confidence.

I would have thought that’s enough to go, actually, and make way for a government that will be truly representative of all of the people of this country.

In the perspective of the Brexit, this means more delays and a lesser surety in terms of the negotiations concerning Brexit.

EU Budget Commissioner Guenther Oettinger while talking to a channel said “We need a government that can act,With a weak negotiating partner, there’s a danger that the negotiations will turn out badly for both sides.
