US doctors have disputed the N Korean account of Otto Warmbier’s coma story: Us doctors have not found any sign of botulism in Otto Warmbier, Mr Warmbier had been freed by North Korea in a comatose state on “humanitarian” grounds.
North Korean regime had made claim that the 22 year old Otto Wambier’s coma had been cause by bloutism and a sleeping pill which was given to him last year after his trial. Mr Warmbier has not spoken since his arrival in the US.
Dr Daniel Kanter said about Mr Wamrbier’s condition “His neurological condition can be best described as a state of unresponsive wakefulnesss.”
The doctor further added that Mr Warmbier “shows no understanding of language” and has “extensive loss of brain tissue” which was likely caused by cardiopulmonary arrest, he said.
The scans which were taken after he arrived at Cincinnati Medical Center earlier this week show that there is no sign that he was physically abused during his detention, his doctors say.
Dr Kanter further told reporters that Mr Warmbier’s condition is “not what we normally see with traumatic brain injury. It’s the type we see with cardiopulmonary arrest.”
The doctors believe that his condition was caused by a respiratory arrests, his condition could be caused by lack of oxygen and blood in the brain.
Earlier on Thursday, Mr Warmbier’s father expressed doubts about the North Korean account of what caused the University of Virginia student’s coma.”Even if you believe their explanation of botulism and a sleeping pill causing the coma – and we don’t – there’s no excuse for a civilised nation to have kept his condition secret and to have denied him top notch medical care.”
Mr Otto Warmbier, is an economics student from the University of Virginia, he had been arrested in January 2016 while visiting North Korea as a tourist.
He had been arrested for attempting to steal a propaganda sign from a hotel and given a 15-year prison sentence.
