A Muslim girl is found dead after leaving the mosque in Virginia
Remains of a 17 year old Muslim girl who was assaulted near a mosque before disappearing have been found by the Police in the US state of Virginia.
The police had said that the teenager, who has been identified by her relatives as Nabra, had been walking with her friends when they had gotten into a dispute with a driver in Herndon. According to the police afterwards the man had left the car and assaulted the girl, after which the girl had disappeared. Furthermore a 22 year old suspect had been arrested and charged with murder.
According to the reports the reason for the attack is still unknown, however hate crime has been said to be one of the options being investigated.
According to a newspaper a group of four or five teenagers which included Nabra had visited a fast food restaurant in order to have a late-night meal after prayers during the holy month of Ramadan.
The group had been confronted by the driver as they walked on a street at about 04:00 (08:00 GMT).
The teenagers had ran into a mosque, however one of them, Nabra, had been left behind and was later reported as missing.
Police during the search, had stopped a car which was driving suspiciously in the area, the police had taken the driver into custody, the driver who has been identified as Darwin Martinez Torres.
Police in a statement said that tater, at around 15:00, police found the remains in a pond some three miles (five kilometres) from the scene of the incident, police said in a statement.
Along with the remains a baseball bat had also been found.
An autopsy will be carried out to confirm the identity of the body and the exact cause and manner of death.
