‘Covfefe’: Spokesman of President Trump defends the odd tweet: A tweet was posted just after midnight, in which Mr Trump wrote “despite the constant negative press covfefe.”
The tweet had stayed up all night, trending worldwide to much merriment.
When a reporter asked if people should be concerned, Mr Spicer replied, “No, the president and a small group of people know exactly what he meant”
President Trump, who it is presumed had meant to write “press coverage” and had failed to finish his sentence, later deleted it and, acknowledging the jokes, wrote, “Who can figure out the true meaning of “covfefe” ??? Enjoy!”
The follow up to the tweet had appeared at 06:09 (10:00 GMT) on Wednesday, which was more than six hours after the original message which was (posted at 00:06).
A reported asked Mr Spicer “Do you think that people should be concerned that the president posted something of an incoherent tweet last night and that it then stayed up for hours?” To which Mr Spicer replied “Er, no,” The reporter further went on to ask”Why did it stay up so long? Is nobody watching this?”
To which Mr Spicer replied “No,” before giving his cryptic explanation.
Mr Trump has continuing tweeting from his personal account since becoming president in January, arguing that it helps him speak directly to Americans.
