Drive out the terrorists: Says President Trump to Muslim leaders

Drive out the terrorists: Says President Trump to Muslim leaders: In the very first official tour of President Trump, he stated referring to the terrorists “Drive them out of this earth” calling the regional leaders in Riyadh to take a solid initiative. At this moment President Trump blamed Saudi rival Iran for all the instability in the region. President’s speech is considered by many as an attempt to retune with the Muslim World after the harsh tone used by President Trump towards immigrants and Muslims during his electoral campaign.

Earlier President Trump had suggested that he would try to create a database of all the Muslims in the US. The President had also moved to call for a ban against Muslims from entering the US, citing security concerns. Although during his speech in Riyadh the president called the leaders of 55 Muslim majority countries saying “this is a new chapter”. The President said that he was not here to impose the American way of life.

During the speech the President assured that the fight against terrorism was not a battle between faiths or civilizations: It was a battle between good and evil. The President said “That a better future is only possible if your nations drive out the terrorists, and drive out the extremists.” However, he added that the countries shall not wait for “American power” to act but had to fulfil their part of the burden.

President Trump singled out Iran, criticising and accusing it of “fuelling sectarian conflict” and “supporting unspeakable crimes” by the government of President Bashar al-Assad in Syria.

In response to President Trump’s accusations, Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif sarcastically called Saudi Arabia “ bastion of democracy and moderation” and claimed that US was draining the country for billions of dollars in the newly-signed arms deals which was worth more than $350bn (£270bn).

It is believed that President Trump has used this speech to deliver a strong and tough message to Arabic and Muslim governments. The message is to deal with the ideology that fuels terrorism now or live with it for generations to come. President Trump had refrained from his usual inflammatory tone which he has become popular for. The President had repeatedly condemned Iran in what is being called an attempt to please the Gulf Arab leaders.

Unlike the former President Barack Obama, President Trump made no mention of the human rights or democracy; however President Trump did mention the oppression of women.

At the same time the US and six other Gulf states had announced a combined deal to co-ordinate efforts which were aimed at cutting sources of money for extremist groups, including the Islamic State (IS). The countries include Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. All these countries are involved in fighting militants. However the same countries have been accused of supporting Sunni militants.
