Five Pakistani Innovators Are Awarded Under Global Clean-tech Innovation Program (GCIP):

In the field of clean technologies, United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) has given five awards to the most promising Pakistani innovators under its Global Clean-tech Innovation Programme (GCIP) in an award distribution ceremony in Islamabad.

 These 5 awards were granted under different categories this year. ‘Modulus Tech’ have innovated a new design of low cost, energy efficient houses, got the first prize. Followed by the runner up team ‘Biotech’ as they made a dual function solar system for rural areas, which can run water pumps and flour mills. Third prize went to ‘Aerosync’ led by a woman for an innovative of making  solar power cart for roadside street vendors.

‘Crean’ which introduced the technology for utilizing and regenerating old batteries was another promising Pakistani winning innovating idea.

It was stressed by the Federal Secretary for Climate Syed Abu Ahmed Akif how important is the clean technology innovations in mitigating the harmful effects caused by climate change. The work of UNIDO, GEF and its local partners in organizing the GCIP was appreciated. He added that such competitions addresses the global environment challenges.

Pakistani businessmen further encouraged the local and international investors to become front runners in clean technology investments in Pakistan. Innovators need investors to commercialize their brilliant ideas and help them introducing their products in the market.

UNIDO Country Representative Nadia Aftab said she agrees to UNIDO’s vision on energy and environment in promoting clean technologies. On the occasion GCIP Project Manager from UNIDO Alois Mhlanga also appreciated the achievements of GCIP in Pakistan.

A selected number of startups in a GCIP country participate in a rigorous, competitive national acceleration programme that trains, mentors, promotes, and connects them to potential investors, customers and partners.
