Man dead as van hits Muslim worshipers in Finsbiry park attack
10 people are injured and a man has died after a man had driven a van into worshippers near north London mosque.
According to the police eight people had been taken to hospital after the “terrorist attack” which occurred near Finsbury Park Mosque.
A man who had collapsed was being helped by a group of people when they were hit by the van just after midnight. In the attack the man had died, however it is unclear whether he died as a result of the attack or due to his earlier condition.
Police has arrested a 48 year old man on suspicion of attempting to murder; police has said that the victims of the attack which had taken place outside Muslim Welfare House were all Muslims.
Abdul Rahman the eyewitness of the attack has said that the driver had said that he wanted to “kill all Muslims” the eyewitness while said that he had hit the man and subdued him.
According to Neil Basu, Metropolitan Police’s deputy assistant commissioner the “terrorist attack” had began when the van was driven into a man who was already being given first aid by the public on the pavement. “Sadly that man has died. It is too early to state if his death was a result of this attack.”
He added that several of those who are in hospital are “seriously injured” and there are currently no other suspects.
The police had earlier said that the arrested man would be “subject of a mental health assessment in due course.”
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has said that extra police are being deployed to reassure communities, especially those that are observing Ramadan.
The mayor added that his “thoughts and prayers” were with those affected by the “horrific terrorist attack on innocent people.”
“While this appears to be an attack on a particular community, like the terrible attacks in Manchester, Westminster and London Bridge it is also an assault on all our shared values of tolerance, freedom and respect.”
