N Korea’s scud missile test, third in three weeks

N Korea’s scud missile test, third in three weeks: The tested scud missile flew about 450km before landing in Japanese waters. After which a protest was launched by Japan.

While talking to the reporters Yoshihide Suga, Japan’s chief cabinet secretary said that the missile landed in an area between Japan’s Sado and Oki islands, in their exclusive economic zone.

According to observers this test indicates that North Korea is making progress to making missiles capable of carrying warheads.

The UN resolution which bans all nuclear and missile activity has been defied by the North, in fact in retaliation of the ban the North has ramped up its missile and nuclear activity.

According to the US Pacific Command the missile had been launched from Wonsan in North Korea and had flew for about six minutes before it landed.

According to a spokesman for the South Korea’s military the missile had reached an altitude of 120km, and “an analysis is under way on the specific number” of missiles fired, indicating that more than one could have been launched.

This launch has came a day after North Korea’s state media had reported the test of a new anti-aircraft weapon system. The state media had also released pictures of North’s leader Kim Jong Un watching the test.

North Korea’s stockpile contains a soviet arsenal of short range scud missiles and modified versions of the scud missiles which could have a range of 1,000km.

Previous two launches by North Korea were of medium to long range missiles. Both of those launches were claimed by North Korea as being “successful.
