Educational Background

The first thing to know before choosing the auto insurance field is that some companies require the candidate to have a degree in business or finance related four-year program.

However, you don’t need to lose hope if that is not the case because many other companies do not require a degree as a prerequisite. These companies prefer that the insurance agents deal with the clients the way the company wants them to. Therefore, these companies make their employees pass a several months long training period so that they can learn all the predefine tactics and methodology they are required to apply on the field.

Licensing

You are required to have a license provided by the state to perform your duties as an auto insurance agent. Prerequisites for the license can vary from state to state. Usually, a 4-year degree is required, or the candidates are required to pass a test related to insurance laws. This test can be passed by taking a pre-licensing course.

Career Prospects

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment will increase by 10% between 2012 and 2020.

Sales agents after gaining enough experience are usually promoted to managerial posts with a higher salary and better incentives. You can also sell insurance independently and earn a handsome amount by starting your agency.
