Singapore Agreement Must Be Obliged By US And North Korea Says Chinese President: Chinese President has urged the United States and North Korea to pursue for implementation of the Singapore agreement.
The North Korean leader Kim Jong Un met Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing to brief his sole major ally on his unprecedented summit with US President Donald Trump.
Just a week after Kim’s historic meeting with US President Donald Trump in Singapore, Xi told the North Korean leader that “regardless of the changes in regional and international situations” Beijing would continue to promote ties with Pyongyang and support its economic development efforts
During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the prospects for denuclearization on the Korean peninsula as well as the potential for developing the north’s economy.
According to AFP news agency, Chinese President told Kim that he “wants North Korea and the US to carry out the results of their leadership summit”,
Kim’s third trip to China since March comes as Beijing tries to strengthen its role as a mediator between the US and North Korea, where it claims compelling security and economic interests.
The North Korean leader was given a full ceremonial welcome, including a military revue and a gaggle of adoring children shouting out welcomes.
Analysts said the frequency of exchanges between Xi and Kim was unprecedented, and a sign North Korea sought China’s support to raise its leverage in future negotiations with the US.
The summit in Singapore “is a major step in the political process to resolve nuclear issues on the Korean peninsula”, “Chairman Kim has made positive efforts to safeguard peace on the peninsula,” he said. “[I] hope both North Korea and the US can carry out the outcomes of the leaders’ summit and … work together to push forward the peace process.” The North Korean leader was quoted as saying he appreciated Beijing’s support.
Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, welcomed Kim and his wife, Ri Sol-ju, at a red carpet ceremony at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, before joining other Chinese leaders for a banquet.
