Suicide attack on holy Mecca foiled
A terrorist action against the Grand Mosque in Mecca has been foiled, says Saudi Arabia.
Saudi interior minister has said that a suicide bomber had blown himself up when security forces surrounded the building he was in.
According to the officials, the building collapsed which resulted in the 11 people being injured; the injured included police officers. On the other hand Saudi security forces have taken five other suspected militants into custody.
At the end of Ramadan, millions of Muslims from around the world have gathered in Mecca.
No further details of the attack have been released by the Saudi officials.
A series of deadly attacks have been experienced by Saudi Arabia in recent years, many of the attacks have been claimed by so-called Islamic State. Most of these attacks have targeted the country’s Shia minority and security forces.
In a attack on July 2016, four security officers had been killed in a suicide attack near the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina.
Saudi Arabia is a member of a US-led coalition fighting IS and other jihadist groups in Syria and Iraq.
