Mistral point polluted by asbestos

It is an alarming situation because many places where families have a quality time have become polluted. Many sites have been known to be poisoned by asbestos and Mistral point is one of them. Mistral is known to be one of the best sea-watching points in Australia and is now polluted.

Environmental Hazard

According to a study presented at a scientific conference held in 2006, asbestos can travel through wind and enter the water supply. It is known to settle on the ground rather than being absorbed by the soil.

The dangerous thing about asbestos is that its fibers are so small that they cannot be seen through a naked eye, not even household microscopes can detect its presence. Therefore, it is difficult to know its presence.

Health Hazard

The tiny asbestos fibers are prone to settle inside lungs, thus, irritating the tissues of the chest cavity. A plethora of diseases can occur as a result of these fibers one of the most common being mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma is a hauntingly dangerous kind of cancer that directly harms the tissues that line the chest cavity. It is a medical condition that is extremely difficult to treat. Asbestosis and Lung cancer are other medical conditions that are a result of excessive exposure to asbestos.

Who are at Risk?

People that are directly involved in jobs such as mining, milling and construction are prone to getting diseases caused by excessive exposure to asbestos. People working in these professions also put their family in danger when they bring home the dust (along with asbestos) into their homes after work.
