Ties with Trump’s ex-adviser Flyn played down by Putin: Russian President Vladmir Putin says that he had barely spoke to the former US national Security Adviser Michael Flynn at a dinner in Moscow 2015.
A widely circulated photo of the event had fuelled speculation about the possible links between Trump’s administration and the Kremlin.
Talking to a media channel Mr Putin said that only afterwards he was told who Mr Flynn was.
Mr Flyn on the other hand was sacked after he downplayed his contacts with the Russians.
Declining to the US Senate Intelligence Committee Mr Flynn had later invoked his right against self-incrimination, and declined to testify in the US Senate Intelligence Committee about his Russian ties and alleged Moscow meddling in America’s 2016 presidential elections.
Conversely President Trump had denied any sort of collusion with the Russians, He has described the ongoing FBI investigation a “witch hunt” against him.
On the other the Russian Premier during an interview on Sunday night, down played his contacts with the American general Flynn.
Mr Putin said, “I made my speech, then I talked about some other stuff, then I got up and left.”
“And then afterwards I was told ‘Do you know that was an American gentleman and he was involved in some things? He used to be in the security services.’ That’s it. I didn’t even really talk to him.”
President Putin on the other hand also rejected claims that the Kremlin had any damaging information on President Trump as “another load of nonsense“.
