‘To do everything’ for Middle East peace says Trump: The President during talks with Mahmoud Abbas spoke of being gratified that the Palestinian leader had committed to taking necessary steps to “fight terrorism.

President Trump acknowledged that to achieve peace between Israel and Palestine would “one of the toughest deals of all” considering that Israel and Palestinians have not held talks for three years. It would be the last day of President Trumps Middle East visit.

Both Gaza and occupied West Bank saw Palestinians protesting against the trip and a hunger strike was initiated by the Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails. Earlier in the week, President Trump has said that he had come to “reaffirm the unbreakable bond” between the US and Israel. President further said that this was a “rare opportunity to bring security and stability and peace” to the region.

The President had flown to Tel Aviv directly from Saudi Arabia. President Trump had been a part of a summit on Sunday where he had urged the Arab and Muslim leaders to work together to “drive out” Islamist extremists.

President Trump had said that he had come”in a spirit of hope” to Bethlehem. President Trump met with Mr Abbas in Bethlehem. The President said that “I am committed to trying to achieve a peace agreement between the Israelis and the Palestinians, and I intend to do everything I can to help them achieve that goal.

He further added that the President of the Palestinian Authority had assured him that he was “ready to work towards that goal in good faith” he further added that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had promised the same.

President Trump said that he was “gratified” that Mr Abbas had attended the summit in Riyadh and “committed to taking firm but necessary steps to fight terrorism and confront its hateful ideology”.

President Trump had said that “Peace can never take root in an environment where violence is tolerated, funded and even rewarded” he was referring to the payments made by the Palestinian Authority to the families of Palestinian prisoners and the people killed in the conflict with Israel.

At this Mr Abbas welcomed Mr Trump’s “noble and possible mission“.

I would like to reiterate our commitment to co-operate with you in order to make peace and forge an historic peace deal with the Israelis” said Mr Abbas.

The US President had begun his statement by condemning the suicide bomb attack on a concert in Manchester on Monday 22nd, May, 2017. The President added that “So many young, beautiful, innocent people living and enjoying their lives murdered by evil losers in life.”

President Trump later on Tuesday returned to Jerusalem and visited the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial. In a speech later on at the Israel Museum, he reaffirmed that his administration would always stand with Israel.

However he said his trip was “focused on bringing nations together” and added that the Palestinians were “ready to reach for peace.”
