Anthony Hopkins once snuck into The Silence of the Lambs screening
Anthony Hopkins once stunned moviegoers by sneaking into a screening of The Silence Of The Lambs.
The veteran Hollywood actor is known for his portrayal of Hannibal Lecter in the 1991 film, a role for which he won an Academy Award.
During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday night (22Jun17), Anthony admitted he hasn’t paid to go to the cinema for a very long time, except for one occasion when he got the opportunity to surprise an audience at a screening of the horror thriller classic.
“I saw Silence of the Lambs in Atlantic City years ago with an audience, but nobody knew I was there,” he recalled hosting Jimmy. “I was doing a film, and somebody said would you come to the theater with me, and I hid in the back.”
Anthony then explained that the scenario became a little weird when bad weather caused an interruption during the movie and one woman couldn’t believe her eyes when she noticed the star sitting quietly in his chair.
“And the lights went out, there was a big storm, and someone in front of me said, ‘It’s a blackout, I think Hannibal Lecter’s in the theatre.’ She turned around and said, ‘Oh my God he is!’” he laughed.
During the interview Anthony also spoke about his involvement in Transformers, The Last Knight, in which he plays Sir Edmund Burton. The 79 year old noted he’s a fan of the blockbuster franchise and was delighted to work with director Michael Bay.
“He’s a piece of work; he’s one of the great directors of all time. He’s got that very American ‘let’s go for it’ (attitude). You’ve got to be on the ball if you’re working with Michael, he doesn’t waste time. He wants it all now!” said Anthony.
