Conference On Literature To Promote Role of Literature And Language Through Social Media: Literature conference at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) highlighted the role of the social media in the society and was attended by the well-known writers and columnists. Renowned writer’s Iftikhar Arif, Wajaht Masood, Zahida Hina, Manzar Naqvi, Fatima Hasan and Khurshid Nadeem were welcomed by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui.

University is playing its positive role in addressing the socio-economic issues of the society through academic, literary and social activities. The literature conference was the part of Literature carnival that has been made an annual feature to promote role of literature and language in the society’s improvement.

Upon the role of literature and the social media, the participants pointed out that it is the social responsibility of educational institutions to create awareness among the youth as literature is inter-connected with the society’s overall growth and due to the wide access of the social media it can leavea deep impact on the society.

Launch Of The Annual Report Of Human Rights Commission Of Pakistan (HRCP)

Another event in Islamabad marked the launch of HRCP report in which Human Rights activist expressed concern on the violations against the basic rights especially that of freedom of expression. They also pointed out at the disappearances and blasphemy charges on the bloggers. The launching event was addressed by eminent rights activist and spokesperson HRCP I. A. Rehman, Senator Afarsiyab Khattak and human rights activist and HRCP office bearers Saleema Hashmi, Marvi Sermad and Nasreen Azhar.

In the report of HRCP “State of Human Rights in 2017”, false accusations of blasphemy, the resulting violence, number of children engaged in labor under hazardous conditions, unabated violence against women, low level of conviction is highlighted. Periodic Review Reports (UPR) suggested that Pakistan failed to show much progress in their international commitments.

In a comprehensive report it is mentioned that the country is no nearer to meeting the deadline of 2030 for ensuring that all children receive primary education. It further adds that murder, rape, acid crimes, kidnappings, domestic violence and honor killings persisted throughout the year and majority of cases remained unreported. More than 5,660 crimes were reported against women in Pakistan’s four provinces during the first 10 months of 2017.Children were subject to all forms of violence despite the enactment of several child protection legislation in recent years.
