Datsun By Nissan Is Coming To Pakistan in 2019: Good News For Car Lovers

Due to the rise in car sales in the last four years by 45%, a manufacturing and licensing agreement between Ghandhara Nissan Ltd and Nissan Motor Company Ltd, a Japanese multinational carmaker headquartered in Nishi-ku, Yokohama, took place on Wednesday.

Ghandhara Nissan Ltd automotive partner of Nissan in Pakistan, for local production of Datsun models has announced that sales of the first locally built vehicles DATSUN are expected to begin in 2019 and said it was launching production of Datsun model cars in Pakistan with an investment of Rs4.5 billion over the next four years.

Nissan partner Renault SA, along with Hyundai Motor Co and Volkswagen AG has increased their investment in Pakistan due to government Auto Development Policy 2016-21.

Car Agreement Facts

Pakistan is a market with big growth potential, posting annual sales of 200,000 cars in 2017, 60% up from 2014. With a population of nearly 200 million people and growing the country’s annual sales is expected to grow to 300,000 by 2022.

The automotive industry accounts for about 4.0% of Pakistan’s gross domestic product

  • Together with Ghandhara, Nissan would be working actively with suppliers to localise and exchange technology and skills.
  • This agreement would introduce outstanding facilities and the best of Japanese engineering technologies.
  • it will provide Pakistan with technical assistance and promote partnerships with Japan
  • The agreement will cover distribution of cars
  • The development of a retail network would create more than 1800 jobs at Port Qasim, Karachi, which has a capacity of 6,000 cars per year

However Nissan Motor Company did not disclose which cars model they will bring in the market first and what segment of the market they are targeting regarding price and quality.

The Nissan official said that they are not worried about competition as the company is already competing with car manufacturers in other countries and Japanese engineers would be visiting soon to make assessments for procurement of parts from local vendors.
