Dr. Amjad New Chairman of APML after Musharraf Resigns: Former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf has resigned from chairmanship of All pakistan Muslim League (APML).
Dr. Muhammad Amjad has been appointed the new chairman of the party. According to media reports, APML spokesperson Dr Amjad said that Musharraf has resigned as party chairman.
Musharraf has sent his resignation to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) as it was no longer possible for him to run party matters from abroad, Dr Amjad said, and added he couldn’t return back to Pakistan due to different cases registered against him.
The party has sent a formal request to the ECP notifying about the change in its chairmanship. Musharraf will, however, remain the supreme leader of the party.
The Supreme Court (SC) had withdrawn its orders allowing former president Musharraf to file nomination papers after he failed to return Pakistan and appear before it.
Following the court orders, the ECP rejected Musharraf’s nomination papers for NA-1 Chitral.
Activists of All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) have congratulated and offered their best wishes for Dr Muhammad Amjad on becoming Chairman of the party.
The newly elected chairman reiterated his commitment working for the party with even more zeal and zest.
Earlier in February the APML central executive committee elected Dr. Amjad as President of the party and General Council endorsed the decision. Party workers pledged their full support for the party and also lauded Dr Amjad’s efforts for the APML.
Dr. Amjad thanked all leaders and party workers and said that together they will make APML a popular party in the country. He said that workers are our asset and pride, and we will organize this party at every level of public sphere.
It is worth to mention here that Dr Amjad has a long standing relationship with General Musharraf and he remained associated with the party in every thick and thin despite invitations from other political parties. Previously he had been serving as Secretary General of the party. He also kept the party intact and united.
The party has sent a formal request to the ECP notifying about the change in its chairmanship. Musharraf, despite his resignation, will remain the supremo of APML, they added.
Musharraf founded APML in 2010. Despite the party announcing boycott of the 2013 election just days before the balloting, two of its candidates still contested and won two seats from Chitral.
The retired general was barred from contesting the 2013 election due to cases registered against him.
