Electricity Saving Earth Hour At 8:30 pm Today

Electricity Saving Earth Hour At 8:30 pm Today: Earth hour is an activity in which extra lights are turned off for one hour from 8.30 to 9.30 pm. In order to make this planet better it is a small effort initiated by World Wide Fund (WWF). Started back in 2007, in Sydney Australia Earth hour is aimed at encouraging people including communities and businesses to save electric power for one hour. More than 2.2 million individuals and 2,000 businesses turned their lights off in the first event of Earth Hour. This is usually celebrated towards the end of March that is on the last Saturday of this month.

Today as per global estimate more than 7,000 cities and 187 countries are now engaged in promoting the essential essence of the “Earth hour”. From Eiffel Tower to the Empire State Building, from the London Eye to Burj ul arab, lights of thousands of buildings will be switched off to highlight the need for a sustainable future.

 What Actually is Earth Hour?

 “Earth Hour” which should not be confused with “Earth Day” is a global WWF (World life Fund For Nature) climate change initiative. They very purpose of this effort is to create awareness among people for two things

  • Responsibility towards a sustainable future and promoting Sustainable Development Goals
  • Turning the lights off to conserve energy.

 Why It Is Celebrated?

Earth Hour is a celebrated with a mission to unite people in protecting the planet. Civil society organizations, volunteer organizations and individuals take part worldwide in the initiative to mark their resolve for the conservation and protection of the environment.

WWF Pakistan

With over 20 offices nationwide and more than 30 projects, WWF is working to save nature in Pakistan. It carries out conservation work according to the Global Program Framework. Main areas are food, climate, fresh water, wildlife, forests and oceans.

Pakistan will observe its 11th Earth Hour and the lights of Parliament house will also be swtiched off.

Earth Hour 2018 will be  from 8:30pm to 9:30pm.
