Illegal Housing Scams In Pakistan: Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) has cancelled 310 housing schemes since work on the housing schemes started without the approval of competent authority. These schemes did not obtain No-objection Certificates (NoC) from the authorized civic agencies.

The report by Sindh Building Control Authority should be made public with all the details so this would save people from investing their hard-earned money in illegal housing schemes while the relevant authorities should direct all builders and contractors to provide a copy of the no-objection certificate (NOC) issued by civics agencies to their clients.

Although these steps are little more than preliminary requirements they need more efforts to stop such scams for future. It is time that all the relevant departments initiate combined their efforts that will finally eradicate this country from such scammers. Many people have lost their money to these scams already so concrete steps are required to mitigate the risks present in the housing industry to save their investments.

In another illegal Housing Scheme Ashiana-i-Iqbal housing project launched by the Punjab Land Development Company (PLDC), the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore summoned the secretary to Prime Minister Fawad Hassan Fawad for his role in awarding a contract to a firm in violation of rules in the housing scam.

Lahore Development Authority (LDA) former Director General Ahad Cheema has been in the bureau’s custody in this case and Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif had also appeared before the NAB and recorded his statement.

According to NAB, the contract for the project was won by a construction company titled Chaudhry Latif and Sons, however, it was instead awarded to Lahore Casa Developers, a proxy group of Paragon City (Pvt) Limited.
