Imran announces rally in Islamabad to demand PM’s resignation: HumSub.TV: Following the Panama Papers case verdict, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has announced a protest rally in Islamabad on April 28 to demand resignation from Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
“They didn’t allow me to speak in Parliament. Next Friday we are going to hold a rally in Islamabad and we will continue to demand Nawaz’s resignation,” Imran told reporters outside the National Assembly on Friday.
The PTI chief said comments made by judges of the Supreme Court against the prime minister were historic. “Whatever happened in the Supreme Court yesterday never happened in Pakistan before.”
Earlier, the joint opposition staged a walkout from the Lower House of Parliament in protest after the PTI leader was not given a chance to address lawmakers by the deputy speaker. The lawmakers in Senate also staged a walkout after demanding the PM to resign.
“What happened today is the reason why I think twice before coming to Parliament,” Imran lamented. “What kind of democracy… where I can’t speak in Parliament?”
“Two senior judges of SC have disqualified Nawaz over dishonesty. The SC has already said that the national institutions have failed to perform their duties so how will they act against him in the JIT?” he questioned.
Ruckus in Parliament
Earlier, a ruckus broke out in both houses of Parliament after opposition lawmakers, wearing black armbands, demanded the prime minister to step down until a joint investigation team (JIT) completes its investigation in the Panama Papers scandal.
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Senator Aitzaz Ahsan in his address on the floor of Senate said, “PM Nawaz should accept that he has been disqualified.”
PTI’s Azam Swati said apex court judges had clearly said the prime minister did not remain “sadiq and ameen”.
Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Khursheed Shah advised Nawaz to save parliament and democracy by stepping down from premiership. “Two judges have disqualified him,” Shah said, adding the formation of a JIT to probe Panama Case was a ‘drama’.
Shah requested the deputy speaker to allow the PTI chief to address lawmakers but his request was turned down. This led to a protest by opposition lawmakers who tore down copies of the agenda and later staged a walkout from the NA.
PTI submits resolution against PM in Sindh Assembly
Meanwhile, the PTI has submitted a resolution against the prime minister in the Sindh Assembly.
The resolution has called for immediate resignation by Nawaz Sharif from his post since ‘he has lost the moral ground to stay as the premier’.
“This house strongly believes that Nawaz Sharif has lost the moral authority to continue as the PM of Pakistan and in the greater national interest should resign immediately,” read the resolution.
