Indictment of Nawaz deferred; non bailable warrants issued for children: On Monday, non bailable arrest warrants against Nawaz’s children and son in law were issued by the accountability court which was hearing three corruption references against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and family.
Nawaz Sharif’s lawyer Mohsin Ranjha after Nawaz’s appearance before the court said that the indictment of Nawaz has been deferred to October 9, the next date of hearing. He further added that Maryam Nawaz along with her husband Capt (Retd) MNA Safdar will appear in court in the next hearing.
Furthermore he added that the request of exemption from personal appearance by Nawaz is also yet to be deliberated upon.
Around 2,000 personnel of the police and Rangers had been deployed in and around the judicial complex in Sector G-11 where the court is located, when Nawaz arrived.
Nawaz who had been accompanied by his political aide Senator Asif Kirmani, and only his vehicle had been allowed to enter the complex.
Supporters of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Media Representatives along with members of the government, were barred from entering the judicial complex.
This resulted in delay of other hearings scheduled inside the complex, as lawyers and litigants were also barred from entering.
The interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal upon reaching the complex was barred from entering the complex by the Rangers. After this he ordered for the Rangers commander, who was a brigadier ranked officer to come out of the courtroom and discuss the matter with him.
Other government officials which included Federal Railways Minister Saad Rafique, Federal Privatisation Minister Daniyal Aziz, Senator Pervaiz Rasheed, State Interior Minister Talal Chaudhry, State CADD Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, MNA Maiza Hameed and Islamabad Mayor Sheikh Ansar Aziz, were not allowed to enter the complex. However later on Daniyal and Maiza had been escorted inside by a security official.
Nawaz then left the court for Punjab House.
