Johnny Depp emerged at Glastonbury’s first film festival: Johnny Depp will make a rare public appearance at a five day film festival taking place at Glastonbury Music Festival. Depp is the first guest presenter for the festival’s inaugural Cineramageddon event curated by filmmaker Julien Temple, which will screen films throughout the annual music event in Somerset, England.
The 54 year old actor has kept a low profile since his very public divorce battle from Rum Diaries actress Amber Heard. The couple split in May 2016 after only a year of marriage, with Amber alleging that Johnny had been abusive during their relationship. Their divorce was finalized in January.
Depp will introduce three of his favorite films at the event, in conversation with Temple, at the 2,000 capacity drive-in style venue.
The movies will be projected onto the biggest cinema screen in the U.K. each evening, with the audience seated in repurposed vintage British and American cars, funfair rides and a Lear jet. The Pirates of the Caribbean star discussed his three choices in a statement obtained by movie website Screen Daily.
“The Libertine is one of those films that got lost in the shuffle. It’s a film that a lot of people on which worked very hard, and one that I am very proud of,” he explained.He described his second choice, American filmmaker Jim Jarmusch’s Dead Man, as an “epic visual poem”.
“It’s unlike anything else… It was an honor to be part of something so unique and profound,” he added. And for his third selection, he has chosen British classic Withnail & I.

“For me, this is perfect cinema. As perfect as Chinatown, as The Godfather, as Time of the Gypsies. Genius,” he insisted.
Also among the program, which also includes documentary films, will be Park Chan wook’s The Handmaiden, Raoul Peck’s I Am Not Your Negro and movie classics including Apocalypse Now, Dazed and Confused and American Graffiti.
