Law of jungle cannot prevail: Imran on lynching of Mardan student: HumSub.TV: FIR was registered on Friday against suspects who attacked and killed a student in Abdul Wali Khan University in Mardan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) for alleged blasphemy.
The FIR, which carried section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) among others, was registered as a special report at a local police station.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan condemned the lynching and vowed to take’firm action’ against those involved. “Law of the jungle can’t prevail,” the PTI chairman tweeted.
The administration of the university has decided to shut the institution for an indefinite period. According to an initial report of the incident sent to KP Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, at least one student was killed while another two were injured after a mob of enraged students attacked the hostel.
Mashal Khan, a resident of Swabi and a student at AWKU’s Journalism and Mass Communication department, was shot in the head and chest before the mob beat his body with sticks. The attackers wanted to burn his body, the administration said, adding a police contingent that arrived at the scene immediately took custody of the body, but students kept on demanding it back.
In a statement issued by the KP IG’s office, he said most suspects have been identified and as many as 8 accused have been arrested while further arrests are being made. “A swift and strict action will be taken against those involved in the incident,” it said.
