Sindh Environmental Protection Act 2014 Has Banned The Use of Plastic Products: Under the Sindh Environmental Protection Act 2014 and Sindh prohibition of non-degradable plastic product (Manufacturing, Sales & Usage) Rules 2014, the import, manufacturing, sale, distribution and retailing of non-degradable plastic products have been banned.

Reason of Imposing The Ban

  • Cancer causing due to the burning of non-degradable plastic bags
  • Other Fatal diseases are linked with it
  • These side effects are not in the knowledge of all manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors and retailers.

Under The Act

  • No person shall import, manufacture, stockpile, trade, supply, distribute or sale any scheduled plastic which is non-degradable.
  • The scheduled plastic products must be Oxo-biodegradable and the pro-degradant use must be approved by the agency or any other department and in such manner as prescribed in the act.

The usage of non-degradable plastic product is dangerous for the human health and life.

Penalty Incase Of Non-Compliance

The Manufacturers, Wholesalers, Distributors and Retailers shall be punished with fine and imprisonment for a term that may extend up to three years in case of failure to comply with the SEP Act 2014 and its rules.

The public that they must not use this non-degradable plastic bag because it is dangerous to environment and cause serve health hazards.

What are Non-degradable Bags

Waste and pollution are a substance or chemical that is non-biodegradable cannot be changed to a harmless natural state by the action of bacteria, and may therefore damage the environment opposite biodegradable.

Burning non-biodegradable plastics will release carbon dioxide as well. Disposing of non-biodegradable plastics made from natural materials in anaerobic (landfill) environments will result in the plastic lasting for hundreds of years. Bacteria have developed the ability to degrade plastics.

The waste materials which cannot be broken down into non-poisonous or harmless substances in nature are called non-biodegradable waste. Examples are plastics, polythene bags, ball-point pen refills, synthetic fibres, and glass objects, metal articles like aluminium cans, iron nails, silver foil and radioactive wastes.

There should be an inspection of plastic products, in different units of the city using plastics like the major shopping malls, supermarkets, farmers markets and other checks. In violation of the plastic limit the concerned must be dealt with severely.

The ban for waste plastics is necessary to keep the health of people safe from fatal diseases originating from burning of plastic bags.
