Top Lawyer of UK Hired By Pakistan In Money Laundering Case Against MQM Chief Altaf Hussain: For the investigation of the money laundering case against Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain who is in London, Pakistani government has hired the services of Britain best lawyer, Toby Cadman, to probe the case further. The case investigations were dropped by British investigative agency Scotland Yard in October 2016.

Ministry of Law and Justice and Office of Attorney General of Pakistan approved Mr Cadman’s contract signed on February 1, 2018.

Toby Cadman is considered instrumental in gathering fresh evidences for the Scotland Yard and the UK Crown Prosecution Service related to money laundering cases against the MQM-London chief. From Pakistan the Ministry of Interior as well as the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Investigation Team probing these cases in Pakistan will assist Toby Cadman.

Sarfraz Merchant, the key person in opening the money laundering cases against Altaf Hussain, will provide fresh evidence in this case.

Toby Cadman also a co-founder of Guernica 37, a London based chamber with a particular focus on defending victims of human rights abuses nationally and internationally, would

  • Represent Pakistan in three MQM-related cases in the UK. One is money laundering, second is hate speech and third is Imran Farooq murder case
  • Act on behalf of the government of Pakistan in relation to all the matters related to Altaf Hussain
  • Liaise with the UK Home Office, Scotland Yard and the British government

Mr. Cadman, who is an international law specialist, also defended former president Pervez Musharraf in treason trial case. Wajid Zia who is the head of Joint investigation Team (JIT), through Cadman verified hundreds of British documents related to the Panama case against Sharif family. Mr Cadman’s law firm gathered the papers but the documents and findings were not made public.

Although Islamabad sensed complications involved with reopening of fresh investigation into MQM London chief case, it would provide some more actionable evidences to The Crown Prosecution Service. As per sources, Mr Cadman might charge Pakistan around 0.7 million GBP in this case but government officials were not ready to disclose the lawyer’s fee.
