A Deck of Cards is All You Need

A deck of 52 cards is all you need. Each player gets 13 cards which are known as the hand of each player. Values are assigned to each card with ‘A’ having the highest and ‘2’ having the lowest value. Clubs and diamonds are the minor and hearts and spades are the major suits.

Bidding

The game starts with bidding which goes clockwise. The main purpose of bidding is to relay information about your hand to your partner across the table. A bid consists of a number from 1 to 7 and a suit. If three players in succession don’t want to bid higher, it’s called a pass. Contract is the final bid.

Understand the Bids

As a bridge player, it is very important that you understand the bids. This is called the bidding systems and conventions. There are different types of bidding conventions, for example a type of bidding convention in contract bridge is 1NT Forcing. Another one is called Colorful Cuebid.

Play Your Cards

Once the bidding is over, you can start playing with the cards. The declarer mentions the suit and the dummy is his partner. The player on the left of the declarer names the suit and all the other players have to follow the suit. The player with the highest cards in the suit will win the trick.
