5th Pak-Iran Permanent Border Committee Meeting

5th Pak-Iran Permanent Border Committee Meeting: The 5th Pak-Iran Permanent Border Committee Meeting Wednesday started in the Iranian city Zahedan. The Pak-Iran mutual border affairs, security issues, trade activities in villages located at the border would be discussed during the two-day meeting.

The Pakistani delegation, led by Director General Balochistan Levies Force Tariq-ur-Rehman reached Iran through Taftan border. The delegation includes deputy commissioners of Chagai, Washuk, Panjgur, Turbat and Gwadar, besides Frontier Corps officials. The Iranian officials welcomed the Pakistani delegation on reaching Zero Point at Taftan border.

Earlier this year Pak Iran Officials reiterated their stance for mutual cooperation in order to secure Joint Border.

Heading Pakistani Delegation Deputy Commissioner Chagai Imran Ibrahim Bangulzai Requested Iranian authorities for Reopening of Zero Point Gate and informed the circumstances which People suffering in border areas due to long closure of zero-point gate.

Head of Iranian Participants Ibrahim Jannati, who is Marzban (District Administrator) of Meer Jawah District, Assured Reopening of Zero Point Gate as Soon as construction work completed.

The Civil and Pera military Officials from both side agreed to enhance Joint Patrolling on Pak Iran Border to Avoid Any Interference. In a two hours long meeting border Control, particularly counteracting of drugs and Human Trafficking were discussed thoroughly. The Pakistani Officials Raised Their Reservations over cross border Firing and Shelling.

Iranian Officials Stated that they only Retaliate on Cross Border Attacks Which Were Reportedly Being Conducted from Pakistani Territory, However Pakistani Officials Denied Such Activities. Iranian Officials demanded handing over of certain Iranian citizens believed to be operating criminal activities from Pakistan but Pakistani delegation ruled out such perceptions and made it clear that handing Over of Criminals is the Domain of Higher Authorities.

In October 2017 Pakistan and Iran signed a Memorandum of Understanding to improve the situation at the border between the two countries. During the meeting of the Pak-Iran Joint Border Commission in Gwadar, joint proposals regarding the border situation, security matters, immigration and border trade between two countries came under discussion, the state-run daily added.

Both sides expressed their determination to prevent the smuggling of drugs, intrusion of illegal immigrants and the use of their respective soils for terrorism.
