A new challenge in shape of realignments in Asia for Pakistan, says ambassador Aizaz

A new challenge in shape of realignments in Asia for Pakistan, says ambassador Aizaz: The ambassador added that the country has dealt with such challenges in the past and will overcome the existing ones, too.

The ambassador was referencing to India’s growing influence in South Asia. India is being seen as a new US ally in an effort to contain China. However, according to the American experts on South Asian affairs say that the Trump administration’s desire to reach trade equilibrium with China can also create new opportunities for Pakistan to maintain good relations with both of the countries.

Ambassador Chaudhry further added that “We need to focus on our goal and deal with these challenges” the ambassador was addressing to a large gathering of Pakistani-Americans during a community dinner in Houston on Sunday. Houston is home to one of the largest Pakistani communities in the United States.

At the moment Mr Chaudhry also reminded the US policymakers that during the past, Pakistan has act as a bridge between the United States and China and was further willing to play that role again.

Pakistani Embassy and the consulates across the United States have been using the 70th anniversary of independence, and have highlighted 70 years of US-Pakistan partnership. The Ambassador at that moment devoted part of his address to “correct wrong perceptions” about the country.

The Ambassador added that “US perceptions about Pakistan lag behind the reality, which is changing every month” he explained that in the last three years terrorists had been defeated and forced to flee across the border or hide in some urban centres. The Ambassador added “we are cleaning them up too, we are a loving people, a caring people and this love and care represents Pakistan, not a handful of extremists.

Furthermore the Ambassador said that the majority in Pakistan has rejected extremists and “we cannot allow a handful of terrorists to hold the entire country hostage”.

The Pakistani envoy shared this message with a group of US lawmakers that he met in the day. Out of them, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson, urged the ambassador to arrange for a congressional visit to Pakistan so that the US lawmakers could see the changing realities in the country and adjust their perceptions.
