Andre Agassi hired by World number two Novak Djokovic after loss in Italian Open to Alexander Zverev: Djokovic had parted company with his entire coaching team earlier in May. Andre Agassi the former number one will be with Djokovic in Paris during the French Open. The French Open is to start from 28 May. The news has been confirmed after German Zverev, 20, stunned Djokovic 6-4 6-3 to win in Rome.
According to Djokovic who said that the “shock therapy” of splitting with his backroom team which included Marian Vajda – Mr Vajda has been with Djokovic through most of his career, would help achieve better results.
Boris Becker, who was a six-time Grand Slam winner had left in December after spending three years as Djokovic’s main coach. Djokovic has now brought in American Agassi. Agassi had retired in 2006 after a lucrative career which yielded eight Grand Slam titles wins.
Djokovic said that “I spoke to Andre the last couple weeks on the phone, and we decided to get together in Paris. So he’s going to be there.”
According to experts Agassi has had no top-level coaching experience. However Djokovic could not have made a more exhilarating choice. 47 year old Agassi has remained hugely popular. Agassi is known as a charismatic, and sometimes enigmatic, true great of the game.
During his time with Boris Becker, Djokovic had won six Grand Slam titles in the three years Djokovic spent with Mr Becker. Djokovic is now expecting to build a relationship with Agassi.
