Ayyan Ali’s arrest warrants upheld by Court, summons on July 23
On Wednesday, 21st June 2017, a petition seeking the cancellation of model Ayyan Ali’s arrest warrant has been dismissed by a Customs Court in Rawalpindi. The court also directed to present her on 23rd July.
Due to the absence of Justice Sheraz Kiyani, Banking court judge Raja Ghazanfar conducted the hearing. The court, during the hearing, was informed that Ayyan Ali did not come to the court despite continuous summons.
A statement by the customs officials said that arrest warrant had also been sent to her Karachi residence, however no action has been taken so far.
Conversely, Latif Khosa, the lawyer for Ayyan Ali, said that his client was not in Pakistan due to which she was unable to attend the hearing. The lawyer further requested the court to cancel arrest orders.
Subsequently, the judge also upheld Ayyan’s arrest warrant and ordered to present her in next hearing, i.e. on 23rd July.
Ayyan Ali has been the focus of media attention ever since March last year when the authorities working on a tip, had nabbed her at the VIP lounge of Benazir Bhutto International Airport in Islamabad.
The Pakistani law states that, no one can carry over $10,000 on a flight, however authorities had found $506,800 tucked in her luggage. In July she had been released on bail and her lawyer had said that she had no intention to take money outside Pakistan.
Ever since the arrest the model had maintained the money was solely hers.
