Campaign against sectarianism and terrorism announced by PUC
The Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) announced a national campaign which seeks to work against sectarianism and terrorism in the country. The move comes after observing ‘Pakistan Stability Day’ on Friday, 30th June 2017.
Leaders of various religious sects, imams, scholars and mashaykh denounced the terror attacks in Quetta, Parachinar and Masjid-i-Nabvi, they also said that the religious leadership of Pakistan was united and committed to the stability of Pakistan and unity of the Muslim ummah.
PUC Chairman Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi told the media that “The decision to observe Pakistan Stability Day was made in an earlier meeting with the leadership of different religious sects and religious organizations.”
Mr Ashrafi said that, while addressing Friday congregations in various cities, prayer leaders from all the mainstream sects, which included Shia, Deobandi, Barelvi and Ahle Hadis, had vowed to carry out a nationwide campaign to annihilate terrorism, extremism and sectarian violence from Pakistan.
He added that “We all understand that any conspiracy to create divisions in Pakistan on account of sectarian differences will be foiled with unity and religious harmony.”
Mullana Ashrafi in his address to a Friday congregation at the Jamia Masjid Mahaz bin Jabal in I-8, said that a nationwide campaign will be carried out for the annihilation of terrorism, extremism and sectarian violence, he also added that the entire nation was united with the people of Parachinar.
Mullana Tahir Ashrafi added that terrorist attacks in Quetta and Parachinar are not against any particular religious sect, but against all the people of Pakistan.
During the announcement Mullana Ashrafi said that a meeting of representatives from sects and religious organizations will be held on 3rd July 2017, in Islamabad, to decide the future course of action to eradicate sectarian violence from Pakistan.
He further added that the unity of Ummah conference will also be held on 6th July 2017.
