The decision to start a cleanliness campaign across Pakistan was taken last month during a meeting chaired by the prime minister on the functions of Ministry of Climate Change at the PM Office.

He had also approved a project named “Re-Charge Pakistan” for better management and utilization of flood waters to restore and re-charge the groundwater.

Earlier, while addressing the inauguration ceremony of the initiative, the prime minister had said the project is aimed at changing mindsets.

“Islamabad’s slums have turned into garbage dumps while clean water springs have become sewage drains. If we resolve to change things, every problem can be solved,” PM Imran had said.

The prime minister had remarked that governments cannot solve problems without the cooperation of citizens.

The premier stressed the importance of involving children in the initiative. “We will reiterate the importance of keeping the country clean to our children,” he had said, noting that 40,000 minors die due to pollution.

The prime minister also discussed global warming with the children and emphasized upon the need to plant trees in the country.
