Commissioning Ceremony of Pakistan Navy ship Held Today In Karachi: President Arif Alvi on Tuesday called for a strong seaward defence while speaking as a guest of honour at the commissioning ceremony of Pakistan Navy ship in Karachi.

Alvi pointed out that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Project (CPEC) will increase activity along the coast and this will call for an enhanced deployment of naval assets and affirmed the government’s commitment to developing the maritime sector.

The new ship has been named #PNS Maun and can carry two helicopters on board.

Naval Chief Zafar Mahmood Abbasi said the new tanker is a symbol of pride and reflects the country’s industrial strength.

Last month, #PNS Saif participated in joint exercises with the Turkish navy. The exercises, including #Mavi Balina 2018, and bilateral exercise #Turgutreis-II, were aimed at enhancing inter-operability between participating navies through the development of combined tactics, techniques and practices.

SAIF is fitted with state of the art weapons and sensors for undertaking all types of maritime operations in multi-threat environment, the Navy said.

Exercise Mavi Balina 2018 was conducted in three phases i.e. harbour, sea and analysis/de-brief phase. The harbour phase was conducted from September 27-29 at Aksaz Naval Base, aimed at creating an interactive environment between the participating navies.

Activities in the harbour phase included pre-sail conferences, coordination meetings and communication checks.

Pakistan’s Naval Chief Admiral Zafar Mehmood Abbas and Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah also attended the event today.

According to spokesperson of Pakistan Navy, the new fleet tanker has been manufactured with the cooperation of Turkey at Karachi’s Shipyard.

The ship has the ability to perform various maritime operations, the spokesperson said. A day earlier, Pakistan Navy’s major maritime exercise Seaspark-18 began in Karachi. The exercise spanning over two months will be conducted in Arabian Sea along Pakistan Coast from Jiwani to Sir Creek.

The purpose of this exercise is to assess war preparedness and validate operational plans of Pakistan Navy taking cognizance of emerging regional and global challenges.

The exercise Seaspark-18 will provide impetus to Pakistan’s resolve of maintaining peace, security and stability in the region.

Pakistan Army, Pakistan Air Force and representatives of the Ministry of Defense, Foreign Affairs, Interior and Finance are also participating in the exercise.

Pakistan Navy will conduct a multi-national naval exercise ‘Amn’ early next year in Karachi.

The exercise is conducted every year since 2007 and is participated by forces of various countries from around the world.

Amn-2019 will also be participated by the forces of different countries under the slogan given by Pakistan Navy ‘United for Peace’.
