Karachi police released Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) chief Farooq Sattar after brief detention on late Friday night.

According to MQM-P spokesperson Ameen ul Haq stated that Sattar was taken into custody from Shahrah-e-Faisal when he was on his way home after attending a wedding ceremony.

City Division Police personnel had arrested Sattar over charges of incidents of violence and hate speech on August 22, 2016 and was declared an absconder in 15 cases.

He was shifted to Chakiwara Police Station from where he was released after brief detention and interrogation.

Sources revealed that Sattar was released after high-level political intervention and on directives of Sindh government.

Farooq Sattar confirmed his apprehension after reaching temporary headquarters on MQM-P in PIB colony where he addressed media reporters. He said that charges against him and his party workers must be withdrawn as they have broken off from MQM-London over anti-Pakistan slogans.
